Membrane Porosity Analysis

Analyzed image:
Membrane surface nanostructure image obtained by precipitation of Ti plasma on the polyethylene wafer.

Problem solved:
Calculation of porosity parameters of nanostructured membrane.

Solution Summary
Source image is automatically processed in order to reveal pores that are located on the cut plane. Particles appearing within the pores are excluded from analysis.
Algorithm is based on the fact that the intensity of the particles sharply decreases when the distance from the cut plane increases. Width map is the major tool for analyzing pores.
Color areas of the map correspond to pores. Intensity of each map pixel characterizes the diameter of the maximum circle that can be inscribed within the pore and contains the given pixel. Width distribution is constructed based on the width map; distribution statistics are calculated.

Determined parameters:
Pore width distribution statistics:
- Maximum, μm
- Median, μm
- Range, μm
- Variation, μm
Parameters of the pores:
- Volume fraction, %
- Specific surface, 1/μm

This solution is ordered separately. Installed SIMAGIS® platform is required for the solution to function.
