Content of Alpha-Phase in Alumina

Problem solved:
The solution determines the content of alpha-phase in a specially treated sample of alumina.

Solution:
The alumina sample is specially treated to reveal the particles belonging to the alpha-phase.  Use of methyl iodide as immersion liquid causes alpha-phase  particles to change color and look blue.
Particles of alpha-phase are selected according to color characteristics.

The initial image is preprocessed to equalize intensity and background.  Threshold segmentation is applied to the initial image in order to select all blue objects, which are the alpha-phase particles. Small artifacts with area less than specified  (area parameter is user-controlled), i.e. the small noises not being the particles, are filtered out, and the remaining objects are measured.

Determined parameters:
The solution produces the series of parameters, including the number of analyzed fields, number of alpha-phase particles on the analyzed area and the content of alpha-phase in percents.

This solution is ordered separately. Installed SIMAGIS® platform is required for the solution to function.
