Geometrical Characterization of Metal Mesh

Problem solved:
Automated determination of parameters for the samples of metal mesh used in producing accumulator batteries.

Solution:
The image is transformed into binary one using brightness characteristics of the image pixels. Operations of the solution process dark objects, which represent the metal mesh. Closing operation is applied to fix small defects on the mesh threads. Small pores on the mesh are filled using the Filling small pores  operation. The solution uses several specific operations specially designed to measure mesh parameters (see figure below).

Measured parameters of metal mesh
D-vertical periodicity, E-horizontal periodicity,
b-thread thickness

Determined parameters:
The solution produces the series of parameters, listed in the following table

Analyzed area, sq. cm
D parameter

- minimal value
- maximal value
- average value
- KD - number of cells per inch

D parameter
- minimal value

- KE - number of cells per inch
Thread thickness b

This solution is ordered separately. Installed SIMAGIS®  platform is required for the solution to function.
